Just on the horizon is the release of the next major version of both Tableau Desktop and Server…version Eight. As always Tableau are keeping tight lipped when it comes to what’s making it into the final release, that is until the Customer Conference 2012 kicks off in San Diego on 6th November 8:30am (PST) when Christian Chabot will begin his keynote outlining what’s to be expected from Tableau in the coming year.
For those at the conference the energy and excitement will be palpable, after all you can’t fill a room with 2000 data geeks and not expect a few rounds of applause as some brand new marks types are unveiled (maybe?!?). For those really wanting to deep dive in to the new features, Chris Stolte and the Development Team’s keynote ‘Premiering Tableau 8.0’ will have most on the edge of their seats.
But what happens after the conference when it comes to understanding how v8 will improve your Tableau dashboards? Even worse what if you didn’t get to attend and you’re eager to learn more and share your excitement with others? The Information Lab has you covered!

FAQs
Where is 1 Alfred Place?
There’s a nice map on our contact page.
When will version 8 arrive?
Major updates to both Desktop and Server are usually delivered 90 days after announcement, although we’ll have to wait until the conference to confirm this.
Will there be an early release of a beta?
Tableau usually release a beta version of both products for testing to all conference attendees. Anybody really interested in the beta please get in contact after the conference and we’ll try to sort you out with a download.
Am I eligible for an upgrade?
If you renewed your last maintenance agreement you are eligible for ALL Tableau upgrades including version 8. If you’re unsure whether your maintenance agreement will still be valid to receive version 8 simply open Tableau Desktop and go to Help –> Manage Product Keys and look at your expiry date. If it’s before the end of January 2013 you’ll want to make sure to renew in order to guarantee you can upgrade.
