With a strong interest in problem-solving through engineering and maths, my career began as a BMW motorcycle technician. I enjoyed diagnosing problems and maintaining the machines to a high standard. It was during this period that I realized my attention to detail and love for speed. In 2006, I transitioned from this hands-on role into the realm of IT, beginning as a mobile engineer. This new career path ignited my love for travel.
I progressed within the company, supporting various airline industries. My roles ranged from reporting to operational heads of departments, managing teams of engineers, to establishing a new support desk for one airline. Eventually, I transitioned into internal projects aimed at upgrading and improving systems. I immersed myself in data and reports, pioneering the role of Business Data Developer within our organization. Initially, I used Crystal Reporting, transitioning later to Microsoft Reporting Services and SQL server.
I recall the day I was introduced to Tableau by Tom Brown. I was searching for a new reporting tool to replace MSRS. Tom showed us Tableau, leaving us with a free trial and a promise to return in a week. In that week, I recreated all our reports and even some we thought were impossible. Tableau was intuitive and easy to use, and I've been a fan since 2012.
After a few more years with my previous company, changes in management prompted me to find a new job. I reached out to Tom again, hoping to find a role that would let me continue using Tableau. After completing a challenge using a new tool called Alteryx, I interviewed with Craig and Robin at The Information Lab. The result was the opportunity to work as a Tableau and Alteryx consultant. Since 2014, I've continued to learn both tools, becoming a Certified Tableau Instructor and I enjoy delivering training on bespoke courses for Tableau Desktop, Tableau Prep, and Alteryx.
Joining The Information Lab, a company of 14 passionate data enthusiasts, has been an amazing journey. We've grown into hundreds in the UK, with offices across Europe, US, and Australia. With modern tools, we work globally, sharing our love for data and Helping people make sense of data with these powerful tools.
