I’ve always focused on helping people learn how to make use of data to empower them and their organisations to make better decisions. As a History and Politics student, I didn’t have a traditional data background. I’ve spent the last decade largely focused on teaching people to gain the skills of working with data, analysing the outputs and communicating it clearly.
After nearly a decade in Financial Services roles increasingly working with data, I moved to The Information Lab to work across a range of industries for four years on consultancy and training projects. With the growth of The Data School, I became the second Head Coach as we began to teach two cohorts at once before leading the UK team as The Data School went global.
I still believe in teaching everyone interested so I co-founded the Preppin’ Data initiative to allow people to learn data preparation skills and how to harness the rapidly developing features of the tool. This led to me gaining the opportunity to writing a book on Tableau’s data preparation product, a book on communicating data, and another for leaders in organisations needing to work with data more. This has helped be become recognised as a Tableau Visionary and Ambassador for a number of years.
